How to Choose the Right Cabinet Collection for Your Home

If you’ve started shopping for kitchen cabinets, you’ve probably noticed something quickly: there are a lot of options!

Painted or wood? Custom or semi-custom? What cabinet construction do you need? How much customization is actually worth paying for?

The right cabinets aren’t necessarily the most expensive option. They’re the ones that fit your home, your project, your design goals, and your budget.

At Twin River Cabinets, we offer five cabinetry collections: Casa, Signature, Luxe, Summit by TRC, and Revive by TRC. They range from locally built custom cabinetry to semi-custom cabinets and replacement cabinet doors, giving homeowners several different ways to approach a cabinetry project.

Here’s how they compare and how to determine which TRC cabinet collection may be right for you.

Which Twin River Cabinets Collection Is Right for You?

The easiest place to start is by deciding what kind of cabinetry project you’re planning.

  • If you want fully custom cabinetry built specifically for your space, start with Casa, Signature, or Luxe.
  • If you want a quality semi-custom cabinet with a more streamlined selection and faster turnaround, Summit may be a better fit.
  • If your existing cabinet boxes are staying but you want new doors and drawer fronts, Revive offers another option entirely.

What Is the Casa Collection?

Custom Painted Cabinetry

The Casa Collection is our custom painted cabinetry collection, built locally in our White Bear Lake shop.

Casa uses paint-grade MDF for the cabinet fronts, providing the smooth, consistent surface we want for painted cabinetry without visible wood grain. Our painted cabinetry is finished using Sherwin-Williams Gallery Series, and we can custom match virtually any color, even if it isn’t a Sherwin-Williams color.

Casa is a great fit if you want:

  • Custom painted cabinetry
  • A smooth, consistent painted finish
  • Your choice of paint color
  • Multiple door style options
  • Cabinetry designed specifically for your space

Because Casa is fully custom, it works for much more than kitchens. It can also be used for bathroom vanities, mudrooms, laundry rooms, home offices, entertainment centers, bars, built-ins, and other cabinetry throughout the home.

What Is the Signature Collection?

Custom Wood and Painted Cabinetry

The Signature Collection offers the greatest range of wood species within our custom collections.

Signature is available in Maple, Alder, Cherry, Hickory, and Red Oak, including rustic and knotty options for homeowners who want additional natural character. Different stains and finishes can completely change the appearance of each species, giving homeowners plenty of flexibility when designing their space.

Signature is a great fit if you want:

  • Natural wood cabinetry
  • Multiple wood species and stain options
  • Rustic or knotty wood options
  • Custom sizing and design
  • A warm, natural look

Signature can also include painted cabinetry, making it especially useful for projects that combine finishes, such as painted perimeter cabinets with a stained wood island.

What Is the Luxe Collection?

Premium Custom Wood Cabinetry

The Luxe Collection is our premium custom wood collection featuring White Oak and Walnut.

These woods are chosen because the material itself becomes an important part of the design. White Oak offers beautiful natural grain and works especially well in warm modern, transitional, and organic spaces. Walnut brings richer coloring and distinctive grain variation.

Luxe is a great fit if you want:

  • White Oak or Walnut cabinetry
  • Premium natural wood
  • Fully custom cabinetry
  • A distinctive wood grain to become part of the design
  • A statement kitchen, island, built-in, or other feature

Like Casa and Signature, Luxe cabinetry is custom-built locally in our White Bear Lake shop.

What Is Summit by TRC?

Semi-Custom Cabinetry

Not every homeowner needs or wants fully custom cabinets. Summit by TRC is our semi-custom cabinetry collection, offering a more streamlined selection of cabinet sizes, door styles, and finishes while still providing quality construction and many of the features homeowners look for in new cabinetry.

Unlike our locally built custom collections, Summit uses framed cabinet construction and is ordered rather than manufactured in our White Bear Lake shop.

Summit is a great fit if you want:

  • Semi-custom kitchen or bathroom cabinets
  • A more budget-conscious alternative to fully custom cabinetry
  • A streamlined selection process
  • Quality cabinetry without needing completely custom sizing
  • A faster turnaround than our locally built custom collections

Summit can be especially useful when standard cabinet sizing works well within the space and extensive customization isn’t necessary.

What Is Revive by TRC?

Replacement Cabinet Doors and Drawer Fronts

Sometimes the right solution isn’t replacing your cabinets at all. Revive by TRC provides unfinished replacement cabinet doors and drawer fronts for homeowners whose existing cabinet boxes are staying in place.

Instead of removing the entire kitchen, Revive allows you to update the visible portions of the cabinetry while keeping the existing cabinet boxes.

Revive may be a good fit if:

  • Your existing cabinet boxes are in good condition
  • You’re happy with your current kitchen layout
  • Your cabinet doors are damaged or outdated
  • You want to update the door style without replacing the entire cabinet system
  • You’re comfortable handling measurements, finishing, and installation separately

Revive is different from traditional cabinet refacing and does not include measuring, finishing, or installation through TRC.

Should You Choose Custom or Semi-Custom Cabinets?

This is one of the biggest questions to consider.

Custom cabinetry gives us considerably more flexibility with sizing, layout, materials, finishes, and design details. It can be especially valuable when a room has unusual dimensions or when you want cabinetry designed specifically around your space.

Semi-custom cabinetry offers fewer modifications but can provide excellent value when standard sizes work well for the project.

Neither option is automatically better.

The right choice depends on your space, priorities, budget, timeline, and how much customization you actually need.

What Questions Should You Ask Before Choosing Cabinets?

If you’re still unsure which collection fits your project, start with a few simple questions:

Do I want painted cabinets or natural wood?

Casa is designed specifically for painted cabinetry. Signature offers both natural wood and painted options, while Luxe focuses on premium White Oak and Walnut.

Do I need custom cabinet sizes?

If your design requires extensive sizing flexibility or highly personalized details, one of our custom collections may make the most sense. If standard cabinet sizes fit your layout well, Summit may offer everything you need.

What is my cabinetry budget?

Having an approximate budget helps us point you toward realistic options early instead of designing a project around cabinetry that isn’t a comfortable fit.

Am I replacing the cabinets or only the doors?

If your existing cabinet boxes and layout are staying, Revive may be worth considering. If you need new cabinet boxes or want to redesign the layout, you’ll want to explore one of our full cabinetry collections.

How much customization do I actually want?

Some homeowners love choosing every detail. Others would rather have a smaller, carefully selected group of choices. Knowing which experience you prefer can help narrow the options quickly!

Frequently Asked Questions About TRC Cabinet Collections

Does Twin River Cabinets only sell custom cabinets?

No. Casa, Signature, and Luxe are our custom cabinetry collections. Summit by TRC offers semi-custom cabinetry, while Revive by TRC provides replacement cabinet doors and drawer fronts.

Which TRC cabinets are built in White Bear Lake?

Our Casa, Signature, and Luxe custom collections are built locally in our White Bear Lake, Minnesota shop.

Which collection is the most affordable?

Pricing depends on the project, cabinet sizes, materials, finishes, and other selections. Summit generally provides a more budget-conscious route to new cabinetry than fully custom construction, while Revive may be an option for projects where the existing cabinet boxes can remain.

Can I see the different cabinet collections in person?

Yes. Visiting our White Bear Lake showroom allows you to compare cabinet styles, materials, wood species, finishes, and construction in person before deciding which direction feels right.
